The Delhi High Court has sought the government’s response on the petition filed by Reliance Communications (RCOM) asking the former to increase the quantum of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band being made available for the spectrum auctions scheduled for March 2015. According to RCOM, the amount of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band put up for spectrum auctions is insufficient.
Also, the operator has added that the spectrum is not as per the telecom regulator’s recommendations and the Department of Telecommunications has arbitrarily restricted the amount of 1800 MHz spectrum. The telecom operator has also asked the high court to put a stay on the auctions till adequate spectrum in the said band is made available for sale.
RCOM’s petition has also requested the high court to ask the government to put the unused 1800 MHz spectrum with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited for the auctions.
