The government has issued strict guidelines to the various ministries to give preference to domestically manufactured electronic products. The guidelines are a part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, which aims to encourage manufacturing in the country and boost its share to 25 per cent by 2020 from the current 15 per cent.
In this regard, all the ministries and departments have been directed to identify department-specific locally-manufactured electronic products for procurement and notify their value in the electronics used in the respective department. Further, the ministries have to adhere to a set template for tendering the procurement of electronic products as issued by the Ministry of Communications and IT.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communications and IT has also been asked to establish an online monitoring system for reporting the number of electronic products and their value by the ministries and departments and state governments.
