TRAI to ask DoT to specify the quantum of 3G spectrum available for auctions

News , October 21, 2014

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will soon ask the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to specify the quantity of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band that will be put up for sale in the forthcoming auction. TRAI is of the view that without the specified quantum of the frequency airwaves, it is not possible for the telecom regulator to issue pricing recommendations for spectrum in the 2100 MHz band.

DoT had earlier asked TRAI to give recommendations on the reserve price for spectrum in the 2100 MHz band, though DoT is yet to finalise the swapping of 15 MHz of spectrum in the 2100 MHz band with the defence ministry. It has also asked for reserve price recommendations for the 2300 MHz and 2500 MHz bands.

Earlier in October 2014, TRAI recommended that the frequency airwaves across all the bands of 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz together must be put up for auctions in February 2015.
