Government takes steps to boost broadband connectivity

News , November 15, 2006

In order to increase broadband connectivity, the government will offer the service free of cost to certain categories of users such as educational institutions, health care networks and village panchayats. However, a sum of Rs 7,000-8,000 would have to be paid for the equipment, apart from an annual rent of Rs 7,500 for a 512 kbps connection. An interministerial group has been set up to enable such expansion.
