DoT may impose stringent licence conditions on ISPs

News , November 15, 2006

DoT may impose stringent licence conditions and rollout obligations on internet service providers (ISPs). ISPs would need to roll out services immediately after receiving their licence, unlike now when they get two years to do so. Also, telecom service providers may have to start paying 6 per cent of their adjusted gross revenue from ISP services to DoT. The ISPs believe the new norms would act as a deterrent to new companies starting operations.
