BSNL Kerala reports 44.05 per cent increase in profits
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s (BSNL) Kerala Circle recorded 44.05 per cent increase in its net profit from Rs 2.86 billion in 2012-13 to Rs 4.12 billion in 2013-14. Further, the circle recorded total revenue of Rs 28.20 billion in 2013-14.
Kerala’s performance can be attributed to an initiation of a multi-pronged strategy undertaken by BSNL, aimed at optimising resources, containing expenses and raising the comfort level of customers.
For the current year, the state-run company is implementing several initiatives. As part of the Mission 500 plan to increase the customer services centres (CSC) in the region to 500, 142 new CSCs have been identified. In addition, BSNL is implementing online payment gateways for subscribers to pay bills apart from the present payment through BSNL CSCs, Post Offices and Akshya Centre.
As a part of National Optical Fibre Network project (NOFN), BSNL will provide broadband Internet connectivity to all Panchayats in Kerala in 2014-15.
During the same period, the company plans to provide 32,000 landlines, 53,000 broadband connections, 360,000 mobile connections and 7,500 Wi-Max connections in the Ernakulam region.
Further, to increase the coverage of mobile services in Kerala circle, BSNL will commission a total of 79 2G towers and 372 3G towers in 2014-15.
