DoT has declared that it has the power to act against service providers who do not adhere to the quality of service (QoS) norms laid down by TRAI. Failure on the licensee's part to adhere to licence conditions, which specifically outline QoS benchmarks, empowers the licensor to suspend, revoke or terminate the licence. Meanwhile, TRAI has sought powers to levy fines on operators who do not meet the QoS benchmarks. Currently, it can only chargesheet the erring operators in a civil court.
