Government plans to reserve spectrum for state owned operators

News , October 15, 2006

The government is considering reserving 20 per cent of the 25 MHz 3G spectrum for one public sector telecom service provider, either BSNL or MTNL. However, the PSUs will not receive any price concessions and will need to match the offer made by the highest bidder. The companies have already provisioned for 3G services in their tenders for new lines. Private operators are likely to oppose the government's move.
