BSNL and MTNL have called for revenue sharing with operators for roaming customers, over and above the fixed amount of 30 paise per minute on the terminating network. This is because the operators charge their roaming subscribers higher tariffs than their regular subscribers, which are not cost based. However, according to the private players there is no justification for the PSUs' demand as the termination charge is independent of the tariff charged by the originating operator, and an increase may result in raising the effective tariff for subscribers.
