DoT has announced a cut in the annual licence fees for access services and internet protocol virtual private network services to 6 per cent of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR). Currently, mobile and fixed line operators pay a fee of 10 per cent for the metro and Category A circles, 8 per cent for Category B circles and 6 per cent for Category C circles. The new uniform licence fee, applicable to both mobile and fixed line services, will reduce the licence fee by up to 40 per cent in the metros and Category A circles while in Category B circles it would come down by 20 per cent. However, the proposal may still face resistance from the finance ministry.
