Chinese equipment vendor Huawei Technologies has escaped a possible three-year ban and blacklisting by BSNL for all future tenders. This is because DoT failed to act on numerous representations by BSNL seeking permission for such action. As a result, BSNL was compelled to issue its mega tender for 45.5 million GSM lines without incorporating any clause to ban Huawei.
Huawei is also eligible to rebid for the new CDMA tender of 2.5 million lines issued by BSNL in mid-March. The request for the ban and blacklisting arose after it failed to supply 1.05 million CDMA lines despite bagging a contract for the same in partnership with Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited.
