Reliance Communications (RCOM) has bagged contracts from central and state government agencies to build and manage data centers, disaster recovery sites and provide MPLS-VPN services.

In sum, all these information and communication technology (ICT) projects are worth Rs 1.5 billion. RCOM has signed long- term ICT contracts with The Department of Post, Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (BMC), Madhya Pradesh Border Checkpost Development Company and the Karnataka and Chattisgarh power distribution companies (DISCOMs).

As part of the contracts, the company will build and manage data centers and disaster recovery sites for the Department of Post, manage the IT infrastructure for BMC across Mumbai, provide MPLS VPN connectivity to the Karnataka and Chattisgarh DISCOMs and carry out automated checkpost operations for the MP Border Checkpost Development Company.

Commenting on the development, Punit Garg, president and chief executive officer, Global Enterprise Business Unit, RCOM, said, “The services provided by us will help the common man access faster and secure transactions and help the departments streamline their activities through automation and high speed last mile connectivity. RCOM currently has 21 data centers spread across the globe, nine of which are in India and have been adding practically one facility in India, every year.”
