Hathway Cable & Datacom to demerge its broadband business to tap the wireline segment
Hathway Cable & Datacom is planning to demerge its broadband business into a wholly owned subsidiary, Hathway Broadband Private Limited. The move is aimed at tapping the significant growth potential for high speed data and related services in India.
Presently, the board of directors of Hathway has given its in-principle approval to the demerger. However, it is still subject to requisite approvals from the Department of Telecommunications, Securities and Exchange Board of India, shareholders, creditors, stock exchanges, and other applicable regulatory/ governmental authorities.
Hathway Broadband will be focused on driving the wireline broadband penetration in India. According to the company, the demerger will help improve the market competitiveness in the broadband segment and allow it to deliver value proposition to its subscribers. Its hybrid fiber coax infrastructure on DOCSIS 3.0 platform is an effective and sustainable technology in this segment.
