Sony plans to manufacture Xperia phones in India

Sony Corporation is planning to assemble its Xperia smartphones in India. The company is also planning to manufacture few of the low-end devices, specifically designed for the domestic market as part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
To this end, the company is in talks with Taiwan-based contract manufacturer, Foxconn. The first batch of these devices is expected to roll- out by end-2015.
Sony had earlier announced that it would set up its own manufacturing plant in India. The company had a manufacturing facility in Haryana which was shut down in 2004 owing to small business size of buiness in the country at that time.
