Government to discuss taxation issues related to spectrum trading
September 04, 2015
The Ministry of Communications and IT will hold a discussion with officials of the Department of Telecommunications on the issue of taxation with regards to the spectrum trading guidelines. This comes after the law ministry raised the issue. After the taxation issue is resolved, the trading guidelines will be sent to the cabinet for approval.
Earlier in August 2015, the cabinet cleared the spectrum sharing guidelines so as to ensure optimum usage of airwaves. However, the government had not permitted trading and leasing of frequency airwaves. Meanwhile, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India had earlier stated that spectrum acquired through trading can also be shared with other operators.
