Telekom Malaysia has reported a decline of 14 .9 per cent in its profits on account of forex losses for the first quarter of 2013. The company has reported profits of 213.2 million ringgit for the period under review.
Owing to the growth in its data services, the organisation has registered an increase of 1.7 per cent in its revenue from fixed-line broadband services. Its revenue from the segment stood at 2.4 billion ringgit.
Telekom Malaysia’s broadband customer base witnessed year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 6.8 per cent to reach 2.11 million. Growth during the quarter was primarily driven by the company’s UniFi fiber broadband service. The company has 560,000 customers and reaches to 1.4 million premises.
The company’s internet services revenue registered y-o-y growth of 14.4 per cent and stood at 644 million ringgit. For the first quarter of 2013, the organisations’ data revenues stood at 685 million ringgit registering a growth of 13.8 per cent.
