Telstra Global has inked a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with submarine cable group SubPartners, as per news reports.
This MoU has been signed to acquire one of the direct Perth-Singapore fibre pairs of the APX West submarine cable.
Construction of the new APX West submarine cable is reportedly expected to begin by the middle of the year and is scheduled for completion in late 2014. When completed, the new cable will span 4,600 kilometres between Perth and Singapore and will incorporate four optic fibre pairs providing two-way data transmission, each fibre pair having an initial design capacity of 8 Tbps.
