GSMA appoints Gopal Vittal and Himanshu Kapania as its board members

The global association of mobile operators and related companies, GSM Association (GSMA) has appointed Gopal Vittal and Himanshu Kapania as the board members. They will serve on the board from January 2015 till December 2016.

Gopal Vittal is the managing director (MD) and chief executing officer, India and South Asia for Bharti Airtel Limited. In his role, he is responsible for delivering business strategy for Airtel’s Indian and South Asian operations. Prior to this, he was the group director, special projects, Bharti Enterprises, where he worked towards formulating and supporting Airtel’s international strategy.

Himanshu Kapania, has been MD of Idea Cellular Limited since 2011. He is also the current chairman of the Cellular Operators Association of India, the body representing the GSM operators in India.

GSMA represents around 800 world mobile operators. At present, the GSMA board has 26 members, including 25 operator representatives along with GSMA's director general, Anne Bouverot.
