Ecosystem For Integrated Energy Management For Telecom Towers
As the tower industry seeks newer means to reduce cost of operations through optimisation and management of energy, the realization that one shoe fits all will not work, is sinking in. There is no point therefore, in force fitting technical solutions crafted in the past, unless they have the strength of promise to deliver measurable performance outcome savings.
It is in this context that a technology ecosystem becomes imperative. All technologies that co-habitate in the tower shelter room must therefore, purposefully cohabitate in supporting the OPEX reduction promise as well. This must be accomplished through a well bound interlinkage at the technology layer as also at the business performance layer. We must not underestimate the importance of operations that serves through processes, people, tools and devices. Right on top of this value chain sits the ever critical solution engineering layer of capability within the operations organisation.
Product is incidental. Any ecosystem that ventures into the business without a robust backdrop of technical acumen in power electronics, energy control and storage technologies and a deep understanding of field conditions in India, will find itself at odds with reality.
It is interesting that no such formation ever took place before. Technologies existed and so did zealous business enterprise. TelEnergy took a bold step to create the first ever in the world. The pride of readiness from an operations perspective brought forth by technology partners and Luminous TeleInfra makes it a compelling case for tower companies to assess what, how and when.
There is hope that many more such endeavours will come to surface because Indian telecom industry needs it as also those markets where grid and socio economic conditions of India are glaringly similar.
