We often find ourselves, within the telecom Industry,  at cross roads to decide whether CAPEX is worth spending on renewable energy solutions and exacerbate our predicament with RoI calculations. 60 per cent of our land mass provides for one natural resource ( the sun ) or the other (wind).

Yet when we get to the drawing board we look at “sizing” of the solution based on the entirety of electrical load. What if we think beyond and conclude that DC energy produced  through renewable natural resources  could be valuable even if it addresses the load requirement partially. What if a three BTS site has only a roof top area worth a PV installation of 2 KW. What’s wrong with that?  What if the wind patterns on the roof top provide for only 3 KW of energy, may be 10 days a month,  only for three hours a day? We discount these options on the grounds of insufficiency. And yet nature will provide these resources almost in perpetuity without any cost escalation ! DG will run that much less and we will leave for our next generations- a greener tomorrow.

Proliferation of renewable energy will happen when we step outside our conventions and mindsets. It is then that we will achieve what we never thought possible !
