DSM's newest DeSolite Supercoating delivers speed and efficiency to the wet-on-wet process
DSM will introduce its latest DeSolite Supercoating, DeSolite DP-1020, at the Fiber-To-The-Home (FTTH) Asia-Pacific Conference in Shanghai. Optimised for the wet-on-wet (WOW) draw process, this coating enables speeds of up to 2500 meters per minute—which can be 50 per cent faster than typical draw processing speeds of today. Ultimately this allows fiber manufacturers to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining the highest levels of performance and quality.
“With surging bandwidth demand fueling rapid growth in FTTH, there's an overwhelming need for superior protection of optical fibers, both optically and mechanically," said Olaf Storaasli, global marketing manager, fiber optic materials at DSM.
"DeSolite Supercoatings are the industry's leading coating on the market today because they deliver the unmatched microbend performance, field robustness and improved processing efficiencies necessary to protect today's network investments for the future. We're pleased to now offer these advantages to the roughly 40 per cent of the industry that uses the wet-on-wet draw process.”
DeSolite Supercoatings: premier technology, next-generation performance DeSolite Supercoatings are DSM's newest generation of optical fiber coating technology, engineered for greater signal reliability through improved microbend sensitivity and more robust field performance, especially in temperature extremes. First introduced in 2009, DeSolite Supercoatings are today's premier class of optical fiber coatings worldwide, delivering approximately 10-times better microbend performance over previous generation legacy coatings. This performance advantage is critical for today’s new FTTx designs, especially at longer wavelengths such as 1550 or 1625nm. Improved performance is also demonstrated in temperature extremes, ensuring a robust solution with minimal signal attenuation especially in low temperature environments.
