DoT to issue NIA for February 2015 spectrum auctions by January 6, 2015
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is likely to issue the notice inviting application (NIA) that will provide the details of the forthcoming spectrum auctions by January 6, 2015. It is planning to auction spectrum in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands in February 2015. DoT intends to provide the auction details through the NIA after the reserve prices recommended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) are approved by the Union Cabinet in the first week of January 2015.
Along with its recommendations on the base price for the auction of the frequency airwaves in the 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands, TRAI has suggested that spectrum in all the bands should be auctioned simultaneously. TRAI has recommended a base price of Rs 27.20 billion per MHz pan-India in the 2100 MHz band, Rs 21.38 billion per MHz for the 1800 MHz band and Rs 30.04 billion per MHz for the 900 MHz band. For spectrum in the 800 MHz band, it suggested a reserve price of Rs 31.04 billion per MHz for the upcoming auctions.
