Private NLD operators Reliance Infocomm, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited (VSNL) and Bharti Tele Ventures Limited (BTVL) have sought a compensation of Rs 28.05 billion from the government following its decision to relax entry barriers for new operators in the NLD space. The operators believe that DoT's proposal to relax entry barriers and reduce the annual licence fee for new entrants will deprive them of a level playing field. If the new policy is enforced, the operators contend that the present obligation of extending the network to all long distance calling areas should be waived.
