TRAI has asked the government to put on hold the award of telecom licences and 2G spectrum to telecom operators till it issues recommendations on spectrum allocation and pricing. This comes in response to DoT's recent suggestion to the regulator to reconsider its earlier recommendation of not imposing a restriction on the number of players allowed to operate in a circle. DoT has over 300 pending licence applications.
