While the policy for 3G spectrum auctions is yet to be finalised, DoT has initiated talks for introducing 4G technologies such as long term evolution. DoT is of the view that each operator offering 4G should be given at least 10 MHz of spectrum compared to just 5 MHz for 3G services. Spectrum in the 2.1 GHz band is likely to be used to provide 4G services since the 2.5 GHz band is used mainly for satellite operations.
