The Telecom Commission has rejected the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) proposal to impose an administrative tax on successful 3G bidders. TRAI had proposed that successful 3G bidders pay 2 per cent of the highest bid amount annually as administrative charges for using the spectrum. However, DoT has cautioned the Telecom Commission against approving this tax as it fears that it will reduce revenue from the auction by about Rs 50 billion.
