TRAI has begun a consultation process on IPTV services. It has proposed a draft modification in the existing Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995. According to TRAI, telecom and internet service providers who have licences to provide tripleplay services under the Telegraph Act, as well as cable TV operators registered under the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Act, 1995 can provide IPTV services. They will not require any additional licence or registration.
