TRAI has undertaken several consumer protection initiatives. These include plans to set up a Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund to create awareness among consumers. In addition, TRAI has instructed service providers to transfer any excess funds –­ collected from subscribers by charging higher tariffs than those permitted via various regulation norms –­ to the credit of the Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund.
