Smartphone manufacturer Intex is planning to set up a Rs 10 billion manufacturing facility at Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The move is aimed at reducing the company’s dependence on imports to meet its domestic demand.
The facility would be ready in three years and will have a capacity to produce 35 million smartphones. It will also be used to produce LED televisions, washing machines and other computer peripherals.
At present, Intex has four manufacturing facilities in the country- two in Jammu and Kashmir and one each at Baddi (Himachal Pradesh) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh). The company manufactures around one million smartphones per month at these facilities.
Apart from manufacturing, the company is also planning to invest Rs 5 billion in research and development over the next few years. Further, Intex is targeting revenue of Rs 80 billion in 2015-16, with 85 per cent of it coming from the mobile division.
