The Urban Development and Housing department of Rajasthan has allowed telecom service providers to install the ground based masts (GBMs) at desired locations across the state. However, the department has not permitted installation of GBMs within the premises or less than 15 metres from the boundary of schools, hospital, sports grounds or within 500 meter radius of the jail campus. Moreover, width of the road on which GBMs will be installed should be minimum 30 feet.
In addition to this, the operators shall have to obtain necessary permission for laying optical fibre cable (OFC) network under the roads and above, and for installation of GBM in the cities from the concerned urban local bodies. Also, in the walled city area or in the areas of heritage importance, the poles/mast shall have to be so designed as to maintain the heritage character of the city, which shall need a separate approval by a local authority.
Further, the department has also stated that the structural stability of the GBMs shall be ensured by the telecom service provider and their foundation shall be designed accordingly. The telecom service provider will also be required to maintain seven major parks in Jaipur/roundabouts/open spaces or pay Rs 10,000 per GBM annually.
