Total GSM subscriber base stood at 721.61 million subscribers at end-July 2015, says COAI
According to the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), the total GSM subscriber base grew by 0.17 per cent from 720.38 million subscribers at end-June 2015 to 721.61 million subscribers at end-July 2015.
Bharti Airtel maintained leadership with maximum subscriber base of 231.67 million. In terms of net addition of new customers, Airtel added 1.01 million new customers in July 2015, the highest among the GSM telecom operators. Airtel was followed by Idea Cellular which added 0.68 million new customers. Meanwhile, Aircel witnessed an addition of 0.30 million subscribers and Vodafone added only 0.07 million subscribers during the given period. Uninor witnessed a churn of 0.97 million subscribers in July 2015. Videocon Telecom added 0.11 million new subscribers while Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited added 0.02 million new customers in July 2015.
Maharashtra circle witnessed the highest addition of 0.48 million subscribers, among all 22 telecom circles, and Uttar Pradesh (East) was the circle with maximum number of GSM subscribers as of end-July 2015.
