Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has launched a free Wi-Fi service in Hazratganj, Lucknow on the request of the Uttar Pradesh government. The free Wi-Fi area will cover a 100-metre radius on both sides of the M G Marg, from GPO crossing to Parivartan Chowk.

The service will make use of fibre optics that would provide speed to users up to 5-10 Mbps.  Wireless Wi-Fi networks, on the other hand, would deliver speed up to 3G level of 2-3 Mbps.

The network will automatically log the user out after every 20 minutes and the password will have to be re-entered to access the free internet. An OTP will be valid for 24 hours, after which a new OTP will be generated. People in Hazratganj would be able to avail the service free of cost till the services are commercially launched. Earlier, the high speed Wi-Fi service was launched in Kolkata's tony Park Street area.
