Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL) has asked the Delhi High Court to quash the letter of intent (LoI) issued to Indus Towers by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) for set up Wi-Fi network at around 18,500 street poles in the NDMC area. RJIL, in its plea, has sought a stay on award of contract of the Rs 2.20 billion project. Apart from providing Wi-Fi connectivity, the project entails replacement of streetlights with LED bulbs and installing CCTV cameras.

The company has challenged the tender on the ground that Indus Towers emerged as the winner for contract as it had submitted a bid for 20 years, while the contract period was 10 years. According to RJIL, the project is expected to be fully commissioned in three years, but the tender is for a 10-year period. After 10 years, it is the discretion of NDMC to extend it for another 10 years.
