Gross revenue of operators grew by 9.5 per cent YoY to Rs 639.55 billion for December 2014
According to the Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicator Report recently released by the Telecom regulatory Authority of India, the total gross revenue of telecom service providers increased by 9.5 per cent from Rs 583.85 billion for the quarter ended December 2013 to Rs 639.55 billion for corresponding quarter in 2014. Meanwhile, the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) increased by 10.15 per cent from Rs 395.75 billion to Rs 435.91 billion, during the same period.
The monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) of GSM operators such as Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular and Uninor increased by 5.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 118 in the quarter ended December 2014. Meanwhile, the ARPU for CDMA operators such as MTS, Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices increased by 4.8 per cent year-on-year to Rs 109 in the quarter ended December 2014.
The number of telephone subscribers in the country increased by 6.09 per cent to 970.97 million in end-December 2014. Meanwhile, the mobile or wireless subscriber base grew by 6.5 per cent on a yearly basis to 943.97 million at end-December 2014.
The total number of Internet subscribers in the country was 267.39 million at end-December 2014. This included 18.86 million fixed line internet subscribers and 248.53 million mobile internet subscribers. The subscribers of GSM and CDMA network together consumed an average of 89.43 MB of data per month through their mobiles. On the CDMA network, average data consumption by a subscriber in a month stood at 251.93 MB while on GSM network it was 79.73 MB in the October-December 2014 period.
