DoT discovers loopholes in British Telecom's long distance applications

News , December 15, 2006

DoT has discovered several loopholes in British Telecom's (BT) ILD and national long distance (NLD) applications. First, the memorandum of understanding submitted by BT does not contain a compliance clause as required under the NLD licence.

Second, BT has failed to submit the shareholder agreement. And third, the company received the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval for the licences in the name of its foreign partner, BT Global Communications Mauritius Limited. DoT has also pulled up BT for not conveying its network rollout plans.

This may delay granting of a licence to BT.
