Sunil Dutt joins RIM India as MD

BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the appointment of Sunil Dutt as its new managing director for India. The appointment comes after Frenny Bawa stepped down from this position last month. Prior to joining RIM India, Dutt was heading the personal systems group at Hewlett-Packard India. He earlier worked for companies like Samsung, Nokia, Whirlpool, Wipro and Philips.

Sarvjit Singh Dhillon takes over as group CFO, Bharti Enterprises

Bharti Enterprises has appointed Sarvjit Singh Dhillon as group chief financial officer (CFO) with effect from January 1, 2012. In this role, he will work in close coordination with business chief executive officers (CEOs), CFOs as well as corporate functional heads across the group. He will report to Sunil Bharti Mittal, chairman and group CEO, Bharti Enterprises. Dhillon has been with Bharti for the past 14 years and has held a number of senior management positions across the group, including CFO, Bharti Airtel. He takes over from Manik Jhangiani, who will be completing his contractual term in January 2012 and has decided to pursue opportunities outside the company. Jhangiani has been heading the finance function at Bharti Enterprises as group CFO since May 2009.

Shamik Das takes over as joint president and COO, RCOM

Reliance Communications (RCOM) has appointed Shamik Das as joint president and chief operating officer (COO) of its wireless business. He will report to Syed Safawi, president, wireless business. Das will also be a member of the Wireless Management Board. Prior to this, he was CEO at S Tel. Earlier in his career, Das held various senior-level positions in Bharti Airtel, such as CEO, Airtel South Region; and chief supply chain officer for Airtel’s mobile business.

A.K. Garg appointed CMD of MTNL

A.K. Garg, director, human resources at Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has been appointed chairman and managing director (CMD) of Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). He replaces acting CMD Kuldip Singh. Singh, technical director, MTNL, was given additional charge as CMD following the resignation of R.S.P. Sinha in January 2011. Garg has 33 years of experience in the telecom sector.

Chakrapani G.K. to head Microsoft’s CCG group in India

Microsoft India has appointed Chakrapani G.K. as head of the consumer channels group (CCG). CCG has been recently created as part of Microsoft’s global restructuring, to monitor all consumer products and channels across the retail sector, operator channels and original equipment manufacturers. Prior to this, Chakrapani worked with Nokia as director for the mobile financial services business. He also served as country general manager for Nokia’s enterprise solutions business unit in India.

Janesh Moorjani to lead Cisco India’s enterprise and public sector segment

Cisco has announced the appointment of Janesh Moorjani as president, enterprise and public sector segment for the India and SAARC region. In this role, he will lead Cisco’s direct sales organisation across all enterprise and public sector verticals, and help strengthen the company’s market and technology leadership. He will report to Naresh Wadhwa, president and country manager, Cisco India. Moorjani joined Cisco in 2004 in San Jose and moved to the Asia-Pacific region in 2007 to lead the company’s sales growth in new and emerging areas.

Mayur Toshniwal resigns as CEO of the Future Group’s telecom business

Mayur Toshniwal, the CEO of Future Group’s telecom business and in charge of its mobile service venture T24, has resigned from the company. Toshniwal, who has worked with the group in various capacities since 2005, will now reportedly work on a venture in the energy saving services business. His responsibilities will now be handled by Sandeep Tarkas, currently CEO, Future Media. Tarkas will take on these responsibilities in addition to his current ones and will continue reporting to Kishore Biyani, CEO, Future Group.

H.H. Haight appointed chairman, OnMobile Global Limited

H.H. Haight has been appointed chairman of OnMobile Global Limited. He replaces Arvind Rao, who will continue as managing director and CEO of the company. Haight has been a non-executive director on OnMobile’s board since 2006. Besides, Harit Nagpal, managing director of Tata Sky, has joined the company’s board as an independent director.
