Bharti Airtel appoints Christian de Faria as CEO of Africa
Bharti Airtel has appointed Christian de Faria as the chief executive officer (CEO) for its African operations. He will join the company beginning January 2014.
Prior to taking over as the CEO, Faria will join Airtel Africa on September 16, 2013 as chief of the company’s English-speaking markets, which comprises nine of the continent’s 17 countries, or the Anglophone region. He has 30 years of industry experience having worked with organisations such as MTN, Telekom Malaysia, Discvision, Deutsche Telecom and Grundig
Faria will report to Manoj Kohli, managing director and CEO, Bharti Airtel, who is leading the company’s international operations which include Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Kohli, who has been heading the Africa operations since the company’s entry into the region in 2010 will relocate from Nairobi to India.
